WINDSOR – Bertie County Schools recently recognized a host of teachers who are excelling at their profession.
At a meeting of the Bertie County Board of Education, Teachers of the Year were recognized at each of the public schools in the county.
A seventh-grade science teacher from Bertie Middle School was chosen as overall Bertie County Schools Teacher of the Year. Carol Mizelle is a 17-year veteran who has also taught at BMS, West Bertie Elementary School, C.G. White Middle School and Askewville Elementary School.
She received her education degree from East Carolina University and was recognized as her school’s representative and then was chosen among nine others as District Teacher of the Year.
“She was an elementary school teacher for quite some time before transferring to C.G. White after Askewville Elementary closed,” said Bertie County Schools’ Assistant Superintendent Kenneth Perry. “She did such an outstanding job, I took some teachers to observe her methods. She has continued to do a great job since she moved to Bertie Middle School and she has been recognized by her peers for doing so.
“As the process goes along, I’m sure she will do nothing but bring credit to herself, Bertie County Schools and the field of education,” he added.
Also recognized were the eight other school-level teachers of the year.
Askewville More-at-Four and Pre-K chose Ann Eure, a 26-year veteran teacher. She received her undergraduate degree from Elizabeth City State University and a master’s degree from Lesley University.
