Side-swiping the wrong car

Published Tuesday, November 24, 2009

JACKSON —A Virginia man is facing motor vehicle and drug charges after he nearly sideswiped an unmarked law enforcement vehicle.

Northampton County Sheriff Wardie Vincent said Danny Lytjen, 57, of 712 Island Farm Rd., Tappahannock, Va. was arrested November 16 after deputies initiated a vehicle stop on Interstate 95.

The vehicle stop was conducted after the ’81 Chevy pick-up truck, Lytjen was allegedly operating, nearly sideswiped an unmarked vehicle being driven by a narcotics officer with Northampton County Sheriff’s Office.

Vincent said both vehicles were traveling south on the interstate when Lytjen’s vehicle, in the right lane, crossed the center line into the left lane.

After initiating the stop, Sgt. Lynette Clements and Officer Williams searched the suspect’s truck where a small amount of marijuana was found as well as drug paraphernalia.

Lytjen was charged with careless and reckless driving, simple possession of marijuana, maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the Northampton County Jail where he was placed on a $2,000 bond.

His next appearance in court is scheduled for December 17.
