Four sought in armed robbery

Published Tuesday, November 17, 2009

COFIELD – Four men are being sought in connection with a kidnapping and robbery that took place here last week.

Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan reported that four black males allegedly forced a man into his home at gunpoint. Once inside, the suspects are alleged to have taken an undisclosed amount of cash as well as a substantial amount of jewelry.

Robert Archer, the victim in the case who chose to have his name published, is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Archer said he was standing in the front yard at his home when a dark-colored Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) pulled into the driveway.

“Mr. Archer is the proprietor of Archer’s Trucking,” explained Sheriff Vaughan. “He told investigators that a black male exited the vehicle and came up to him telling him he had logs for him to pull.

“While the first subject was still talking to Mr. Archer, another black male exited the vehicle and approached him,” the sheriff continued. “While he was standing there, the first subject pulled a black handgun and forced him (Archer) inside the residence.”

The sheriff said once inside, Archer said he was told to “give up the money you won yesterday at the track.”

“The suspects then told him he could do it the easy way or the hard way, meaning they would wait for his family to come home,” Sheriff Vaughan said.

Archer then reportedly told the suspects where he kept his money. He was then allegedly tied up with duct tape and placed in a bedroom with a chair against the door.

Sheriff Vaughan said the four men then opened drawers throughout the home and dumped the contents on the floor.

Hertford County Sheriff’s Office Investigators Dexter Hayes and Raymond Eure are handling the investigation.

One of the four suspects was wearing blue jeans and a gray sweatshirt while another had on a gray sweatshirt and black toboggan. The third suspect had on a dark-colored Dickie short-sleeve shirt and pants. Archer was not able to identify the clothing of the fourth man.

“We would appreciate any help the community may be able to offer in this investigation,” Sheriff Vaughan said. “If anyone saw the vehicle, the suspects or anything of that nature, we ask them to give us a call.”

Those with information should call Hertford County Crimestoppers at 358-7841.

It sounds gang related to me, and the way they went about it makes me think they had done it many times before. Iam just glad they didn't hurt or kill anybody. Being a reward is being offered I feel confident someone will come forward with some information.

I disagree with "BATMAN's " comment. I don't believe that this robbery was nowhere closely gang related, more like, related to the way of life Mr. Archer chooses to live, such as betting $10 to $20 Thousand dollars on silly motorcycle races at a time, at the "track". Betting thousands of dollars on illegal road races on the back roads of Hertford county with wannabe drag racers. Riding around in his flashy cars and trucks flashing wads of cash and bragging about the many women he has on the side. No this is not gang related, but seems more about these people trying to get back the money they lost at the track. I think the Sheriff need only to ask Archer who his rider defeated at the track, how much money he took from that person and then interview that person, and he inturn will lead him (the Sheriff) to the persons who carried out this crime. I am a believer in this, if you practise foolishness you'll become the victim of it. Also if a person was smart it would make you wonder how does an honest, hard working person afford to blow thousand dollars on single races at a time and not break a sweat. The adverage JOE doesn't even make a thousand dollars in a month hardly around these parts. Just my opinion....

Al B Sure Looking Punk ...RATHER A BULLET OR PRISON

Nobody is feeling remorseful for this drug trafficker and organized crime figure.

Cant wait to see the day that this coward stands in front of U.S. District Judge The Honorable Terrence W. Boyle, United States Attorney George E.B. Holding. Should have been in federal prison for widespread distribution of crack cocaine along time ago. Word on the street is that his homeboy “BROWN” took the fall for him. This dude has launder drug money for years, and stands behind a trucking business………

You are 100% correct "EASTEND". If I was Sheriff Vaughan, I would not waste five minutes of manpower trying to solve this matter. Live this way of LIFE and you'll become the victim of it. "BATMAN" you need to wakeup and take the blinders off of your eyes.

Also if you really know what is going on Archer bike has not ran or raced anybody period, I think if they what to found out who did it they need to interview you two 27910 and eastend you two sure do think you know alot about Mr. Archer.
