Shooting leaves one dead, one hospitalized
Published Tuesday, November 10, 2009
COLERAIN – Bertie County Sheriff Greg Atkins said an investigation continues into a Sunday morning shooting that has left one dead and one injured.
Nathaniel Moody, 36, was shot and killed and his brother, Tyrone Moody, 35, was injured after being shot in the parking lot of a private club at 108 Lua Lane in Colerain, according to Sheriff Atkins.
The sheriff reported the incident occurred at approximately 3 a.m. Sunday. The two men were shot by a person who is known to investigators.
“We know who the shooter is,” Sheriff Atkins said. “He hasn’t been arrested and we are investigating the circumstances around the shooting.”
The sheriff said the shooter was still at the scene when officers arrived and investigators have taken a statement. He said an altercation apparently led to the shooting.
An autopsy was conducted on Nathaniel Moody Monday afternoon, but results had not been released. Tyrone Moody was in Pitt Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
The sheriff said investigation will continue as witnesses are interviewed and the autopsy results come in.

As if anyone is surprised about this situation! This man, James Lewis Perry, whom operated this illegal club, has been doing this, selling alcohol without a license, including selling moonshine by the 'shot' or quart jar for many years now. The Berite County Sheriff's office (Atkins) was and is very much aware of the illegal action that was taking place at this location but did nothing to stop such activity. Now a family stands in sorrow of the loss of a son and another son in critical condition over him (Perry) shooting them. I don't know what occured at that 'Jukejoint' but it should have been closed a long time ago and those two vitims should have been at home sleeping, and getting ready for church, and maybe then, that Felon, James Lewis Perry, whom did the shooting, with a gun that he was not supposed to have had in the first place, would not be in the deep trouble that he is in right now. My opinion....
