Two students arrested in bomb threat

Published Sunday, May 31, 2009

JACKSON — Northampton County Sheriff Wardie Vincent has a warning for those calling in bomb threats to local schools: it will not be tolerated.

The Northampton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) is currently investigating a bomb threat called into Central Elementary School on Thursday afternoon.

Meanwhile, two arrests have been made in a bomb threat called into Northampton County High School (NCHS)-West that occurred earlier this month.

According to Vincent, his office was called to NCHS-West on May 8 in reference to a bomb threat.

“Some one had called into (the school’s) front office and stated there was a bomb set to go off in a hallway,” he said.

Vincent said the NCSO responded and carried out the proper procedures of evacuating and then searched the school. No explosive devices were found.

Upon investigation, Vincent said his officers were able to track the call back to a cell phone and two suspects.

Boston Desean Claboine, 16, of Maple Street in Garysburg and Motique Jackson, 16, of South Bay Street in Gaston were taken into custody for the crime.

Vincent said Claboine and Jackson, who are students at NCHS-West, were charged with making a false bomb report to a school. They were both placed in the Northampton County Jail on a $10,000 bond each.

Vincent commended his deputies for their work on the case as well as Lieutenant Detective Brenda Burnette for her work on the case.

Furthermore, Vincent had a warning for those who intend to make false reports to local schools.

“We definitely will not tolerate this,” he said.

Vincent said false bomb reports are costly in time and manpower. He added the NCSO will seek the maximum penalty for these types of offenders.

Those who have information about the bomb threat at Central Elementary School can contact the NCSO at 534-2611 or the Northampton County Crime Stoppers line at 534-1110. All information will be kept confidential.
