Lady Red Barons take two

GATESVILLE – Gates County High School took a pair of softball victories last week.

The Lady Barons defeated First Flight High School 5-1 a day before downing Northampton County High School – East 26-0.

In the victory over First Flight, Gates scored a run in the first and another in the third before plating two in the fourth and another in the sixth to win 5-1.

Hillary Bunch picked up the pitching victory going seven innings and allowing just two hits. She struck out eight and walked four.

Erica Bradley went 2-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases to lead the Red Barons and Ashley Brown was 2-for-2 with a walk and two stolen bases.

Bobbi Doughtie checked in at 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored while Amanda Brown had two RBIs.

A day later, the Red Barons easily defeated Northampton-East, scoring 21 runs in the first inning en route to a 26-0 three-inning win.

Holly Bagley tossed a no-hitter for Gates County. She struck out nine and walked one.

Bradley led off the game with an in-side-the-park homerun and finished the day 2-for-2 with a homerun and a double and two RBIs.

Bobbi Doughtie was 3-for-5 with four RBIs and Julie Askew went 2-for-3 with four RBIs.

The two victories boosted Gates County to 3-2 overall on the season and 1-0 in the Tar-Roanoke Conference.
