Shooting suspect surrenders

Published Tuesday, March 24, 2009

JACKSON — A suspect wanted in a February shooting has turned himself in.

According to Northampton County Sheriff Wardie P. Vincent, the arrest of Rodney Earl “Pope” Brown, 36, came late Sunday night.

Brown was taken into custody after he surrendered at the Sheriff’s Office.

Vincent said Brown was charged with attempted first degree murder.

The charge stems from a shooting that occurred in the early morning of Feb. 8 at a home on Carlos Drive in Garysburg.

The shooting transpired during a party when Brown apparently became upset with another male at the residence and allegedly shot at him approximately four times.

After being taken to Halifax Regional Medical Center, the victim was listed in critical condition. He was then airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.

Vincent said Brown was placed in the Northampton County Jail on a $50,000 secured bond.

The investigating officer, Chief Detective Captain D.M. Harmon, said Brown’s first court appearance was Monday and the case was continued until April 6.
