MURFREESBORO — The Murfreesboro Town Council on Tuesday tentatively approved the $143,360 low bid for the Holly Hill Road Lift Station’s relocation and upgrade, authorizing Mayor Lynn Johnson to sign a contract for the work once the city is satisfied with the firm’s credentials.
The Town received five bids for the work. The high bid was $345,000. The low bid was submitted by H.G. Reynolds Co., Inc.
The council also was advised by Town Administrator Cathy Davison that the North Carolina Community Development Initiative, Inc., had submitted a letter advising that it would “step away from” the Howard Hunter Villas project, of which the lift station was a part.
Davison said the town is moving forward with the lift station as a part of its commitment to construct the water and sewer infrastructure for the project and Hertford County QUOLA “has a builder it can work with.”
The Villas project dates to 1998.
Davison told the council she hopes the lift station work can begin by the end of June and is expected to take six months to complete.
In other action, the council was advised that the artist painting murals on downtown Murfreesboro buildings is ready to begin work on one that is to be painted on the back of the Embarq building, and that the North Carolina Watermelon Festival Committee is committed to funding it.
Mayor Johnson said Embarq representative Eddie Lynch “is very eager” for that work to begin.
By consensus, the council gave its approval.
