B&E suspect arrested

Published Thursday, June 4, 2009

AHOSKIE – Quick work by the Ahoskie Police Department has led to the arrest of a local man charged in an early-morning crime.

Jermaine Perry, 27, of Ahoskie was arrested Wednesday following an investigation of a breaking-and-entering of Savin & Hill Appliance located on Main Street.

According to APD Detective Sgt. Stephen White, who handled the investigation, a passer-by apparently reported seeing glass lying on the sidewalk in front of Savin & Hill around 7 a.m. Wednesday. White said APD Officer Justin Farmer was the first to arrive on the scene, followed by Officers Dan Flores and Leon Hall.

“There was glass on the sidewalk, allegedly caused by a person entering the store through a window,” White said.

White added that evidence was collected inside the store. An undisclosed number of items were stolen.

Officer Hall arrested Perry a short time later.

Perry was charged with two felonies – breaking and entering and larceny – and a pair of misdemeanors – damage to real property and RDO (Resist, Delay and Obstruct).

Bond was set at $55,000 secured and Perry was taken to the Hertford County Detention Center. His first court appearance is scheduled for tomorrow (Friday).

“My staff responded very quickly to the scene and did a thorough and professional job in their investigation, thus leading to a quick arrest,” APD Chief Troy Fitzhugh said.

Detective Sgt. White was also appreciative of the job performed by the APD officers.

“The guys did a great job in following up on the different parts of this investigation,” he said. “Their work helped us make a quick arrest.”
