Arrest made in shooting

GASTON — An arrest has been made in a weekend shooting that left a woman injured here.
According to Northampton County Sheriff’s Detective Lieutenant Brenda Burnette, the suspect, Latrese Shenee Bynum, turned herself in on Monday.
Burnette said the arrest stems from a shooting that occurred Sunday night. At approximately 9:49 p.m., the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) received a call in reference to a shooting that occurred in the Gaston projects.
Burnette said when deputies arrived they found a woman with a shotgun wound to one of her lower legs. The victim was transported by EMS to Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids and then to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
Burnette said as of Wednesday, the victim is still in Pitt County Memorial Hosptial and in stable condition.
After further investigation, a BOLO (be on the look out) was issued for Bynum.
Burnette said the next day Bynum, 23, of Gaston, was served with a warrant and arrested after turning herself into the NCSO.
She was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill/inflicting serious injury.
Bynum was placed in the Northampton County Jail under a $15,000 cash bond. She has made bond and her first court appearance is schedule for today (Thursday).
Burnette said the motive for the shooting is still under investigation.
