Fire guts Roxobel residence

Published Thursday, December 3, 2009

ROXOBEL – Fire has left a home here completely destroyed.

The Main Street home was located beside the Roxobel Fire Department. Roxobel Fire Chief Charlie Vaughan said more than 20 firemen responded from Roxobel, Kelford and Lewiston Woodville.

“The fire gutted the house entirely,” Chief Vaughan said. “There was one person home at the time, but he was able to leave the house and go to a relative’s. Nobody was hurt.”

The fire was reported at 5:30 p.m. and firefighters remained on the scene for nearly four hours. An hour after their departure, the blaze reignited and firemen returned to the scene. The second time, the firemen were at the location for another hour.

Chief Vaughan said he believed the fire was electrical in nature and there was nothing suspicious about the blaze. He estimated the damage between $40,000-$50,000.

“We appreciate the support we received from the other departments,” he said. “It’s always good to know you can count on your fellow firefighters.”
