GREENVILLE – A local woman tragically lost her life here Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident that also injured her sister.

According to the Greenville Police Department, 73-year-old Carolyn Taylor Brown, who resided on Meadow Road in the Trap community of Bertie County, died as a result of her injuries sustained on the 2:30 p.m. crash.

Brown’s sister, 78-year-old Danise Taylor Harrell of the Bud Taylor Road, also in the Trap community, was injured and transported to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

According to Kristen Hunter, Public Information Officer for the Greenville Police Department, EMS personnel found Brown unresponsive at the accident scene. They extricated her and her sister from the van, but were unable to revive Brown. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation by the Greenville Police indicated that Brown, the driver of a Dodge minivan that was traveling south on Memorial Drive (NC 11), failed to stop for a red light and collided with a Honda Accord that was traveling west on Regency Boulevard.

The collision caused the van to roll over.

The driver of the Honda, 50-year-old Develon Ray Jacobs of Winterville, was not injured.

Traffic was shut down at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Thomas Langston Road for approximately three hours as a result of the traffic collision.
