WINTON – A Murfreesboro man is behind bars here, awaiting his first court appearance today (Tuesday) on charges of marijuana possession.

Hertford County Sheriff said 28-year-old Corie Lamont Reynolds of Second Street was arrested by HCSO Deputy Kimani Stanley following a routine traffic stop shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday.

“Deputy Stanley was traveling on Mulberry Street in Winton at that time when he observed a vehicle cross over a double yellow line,” Vaughan said. “Deputy Stanley performed a traffic stop on the vehicle and upon approaching the car he noted the strong smell of marijuana.”

Upon questioning the driver, Vaughan said Reynolds voluntarily surrendered a bag of marijuana to the deputy. That bag contained 2.4 ounces of pot.

Stanley placed Reynolds under arrest for felony possession of marijuana with intent to sell and deliver; felony maintaining a vehicle to store a controlled substance; misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia; and carrying a concealed weapon, also a misdemeanor.

Deputy Stanley also issued a traffic citation to Reynolds for driving left of center.

Reynolds was placed in the Hertford County Jail under a $30,000 bond.

“I commend Deputy Stanley for being so observant which led to this arrest. We are continuing our efforts here in Hertford County to control the flow of illegal drugs,” Sheriff Vaughan stated.
