Orlando V. Fitzhugh

AHOSKIE – Orlando Vaughan Fitzhugh, 79, of 703 E. Myers Street, Ahoskie, NC, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at his residence. He was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania on November 24, 1935 to the late Orlando V. Fitzhugh II and Eunice T. Fitzhugh.

He attended George Washington High School in New York.  At a young age, he was married to Daphne Amritt and to that union six children were born.

While living in NY, he was employed in the school system. He also worked as a police officer at the NY Medical Center where he was later promoted to Captain. He was a member of the Westhampton Beach Fire Department

On October 30, 1978, he married Barbara Jean Hejnas and to that union two girls were born. They later relocated to Ahoskie, NC and he obtained employment with the Hertford County School System as a bus driver.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 37 years, Barbara Jean Fitzhugh; sons, Cyril Fitzhugh, and Troy Fitzhugh (Angela) of Ahoskie, NC; daughters, Patricia Winley, Deborah Davis (Jerald) of Ahoskie, NC, Michelle Bloxon (Mitchell) of Riverhead, NY, Lauren Wells (Delton) of Winton, NC, and Heather Fitzhugh of Ahoskie, NC; daughters he raised, Kelly Greenaway of Columbia, SC, Kim Greenaway Gilliam of Memphis, TN, and Karen Greenaway of Queens, NY; brother, Larry Fitzhugh of New Castle, PA; sister, Julia Goddard of Ahoskie, NC; grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Orlando K. Fitzhugh.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 29, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Soul Saving Station in Ahoskie, NC. Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens with Rev. Keith Urquhart officiating. Wilder’s Funeral Home Inc. Aulander, NC is handling the arrangements.
