MURFREESBORO – The effort continues to save the 2015 North Carolina Watermelon Festival.

Those wishing to make donations to allow the 30th annual festival to take place can do so online at http://www.gofundme.com/watermelon2015

After initially deciding last week to cancel this year’s event, the Festival’s planning committee is reconsidering its actions following an outpouring of support from across North Carolina, Virginia and beyond.

Late last week, Roanoke-Chowan Publications announced it would donate $1,000 to help ensure that the “show would go on” for 2015. To date, RCP has been made aware of others stepping forward to offer financial assistance.

Donations, no matter the size, will be greatly appreciated.

If the goal is met, the Festival will be held on its originally scheduled dates of Wednesday, July 29 through Saturday, Aug. 1.
