MOREHEADCITY – Ray James West, 94, of Morehead City, formerly of Ahoskie, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Carteret General Hospital.

A private service will be held at a later date in Ahoskie.

Mr. West was a retired district engineer for the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 1061st Port Construction Engineer Division in Europe and the Philippines. He was a member of Ahoskie First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Lynn Overman and husband Russell of Morehead City; two grandchildren, Betsy Lane and husband Charles of Ocean and West Overman and wife Meagan of Washington; two great-grandchildren, Emma Lane, and Jackson Lane; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth S. West; and cousin, Cynthia Rose and husband Larry of Ahoskie.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet L. West; and his parents, Charles and Evelyn West. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Wilbur West, Weymouth “Pete” West, Carlton “Chick” West, and his twin, Roy Edward West.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
