AHOSKIE – Fred Collins Lowe, age 91, of Ahoskie, passed away on March 19, 2015 at the Vidant Medical Center of Greenville, NC.

He was born on June 21, 1923 to the late Roy Daniel and Belle Chamblee Lowe in Hertford County, NC. Fred was an Army Veteran, serving in World War II. Fred retired from Beasley Oil Company/Eastern Fuels after many years of dedicated service to the community. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and his daily meetings with his friends in the Coffee Club. Fred was always looking for ways to help others in any way he could. He never met a stranger, and was loved by all that knew him, both young and old. Fred was known as Ridgecroft’s biggest fan and was dedicated to showing his support to all the kids, which will always remember him as PaPa Fred. His pride and joy in life were his grandsons, Matt and Michael. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

Along with his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his brothers, Earl and Cecil Lowe; and his sister, Doris Humphrey.

Left to cherish Fred’s memory is his wife of 57 years,  Peggy; his daughter, Sue L. Byrum and husband Mike of Ahoskie, NC; two grandsons, Matthew Collins Byrum and his wife Tana of Baton Rouge, LA, and Michael Lowe Byrum of Greenville, NC; two brothers, Roy L. Lowe and his wife Martha of Lake Waccamaw, NC, and Douglas Lowe and his wife Kaye of Ahoskie, NC; special nephew, Tommy Lowe and his wife Patsy of Washington, NC;  along with several nieces, nephews and special friends.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Ahoskie, Ahoskie, NC, with Dr Daniel Glaze officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church and other times at the home of Fred’s daughter, Sue Byrum.
