Carrie P. Perry

AHOSKIE – Carrie Jo Pratt Perry passed away peacefully on the evening of December 1, 2014 at the age of 83, surrounded by family and friends.  She was under the loving care of her family, caregivers, and hospice.

A native of Bertie County, NC, Carrie was the wife of the late John E. M. Perry and the daughter of the late Carrie Pratt Freeman. Later she became a step-daughter of R. Carl Freeman, all of Colerain, NC.

She is survived by her daughter, Jo Perry Tolbert and her husband John B. Tolbert of Roxobel, NC; her grandson, Joseph M. “Sonny” Browne, III of Greenville, NC; her granddaughter, Johnna R. Browne of Aulander, NC; and her great-grandsons, Logan H. P. Chapman and Robert E. M. Chapman of Aulander, NC.  The eldest of three children, she is also survived by Helen Thompson and her husband Charles Thompson of Suffolk, VA, and Betty Todd of Merry Hill, NC, as well as a niece, nephews, and their families.

Carrie and John married in 1947.  They lived and farmed in the Wakelon Community until 1989 when they moved to Ahoskie.  They enjoyed retired life together until 2001 when John lost his battle with Parkinson’s disease and several severe strokes. Carrie was loved by many, and many who loved her called her “Nana.”

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 5 at 1:00 pm at Connaritsa Baptist Church, Aulander, NC followed by the funeral at 2:00 pm.  There will be a graveside service at Hillcrest Cemetery in Colerain after the funeral.
