AHOSKIE – Ruby Hoggard Jernigan, age 85, of Ahoskie, passed away on October 28, 2014 at the Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital of Ahoskie, NC

She was born on November 8, 1928 to Johnny and Bessie Hoggard. Mrs. Jernigan worked in the kitchen at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, NC for many years. She retired from the hospital in 1995.

Mrs. Jernigan was a member of Ahoskie Freewill Baptist Church where she attended faithfully as long as her health allowed. She enjoyed cooking, reading and loved people.  She will be missed by all that knew her. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to all the employees of the Creekside Nursing Home of Ahoskie.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Bessie Hoggard; father, Johnny Aubrey Hoggard; husband, Eugene Jernigan; brothers, Johnny Hoggard and Earl Hoggard; and her sister, Christine Clark.

Ruby is survived by her stepson, Calvin Turner Draper and his wife, Judy of Conway, NC; sister, Alice Lewis of Mountain Home, NC; and brother, Aubrey Hoggard of Lasker, NC

Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 31, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Memorial Gardens in Ahoskie, NC, with Dr. Jeff Cockrell officiating.
