Two file for HC School Board

WINTON – Two incumbent members of the Hertford County Board of Education have opted to seek reelection.

Of the three seats open in the 2014 election cycle, Shelia Porter of Murfreesboro and Dennis Deloatch of Ahoskie filed this week.

Porter, a retired teacher, currently serves as the Chair of the Hertford County Board of Education. She filed on Wednesday, two days after the four-week filing period opened. Deloatch, who filed on Friday, is the retired Superintendent of the county’s public school system.

The other seat open this year is currently held by incumbent School Board member John Horton.

Those seeking to be listed on the November General Election ballot as a School Board candidate are required to file no later than 12 noon on Aug. 1. Candidates are required to file at the Hertford County Board of Elections office in Winton. Call 252-358-7812 for more information.

Filing for the two seats on the Hertford County Soil and Water District Board of Supervisors ended July 7. Only two filed – incumbent board members David Simons III of Murfreesboro and Jimmy Mason of Harrellsville. Their names will be listed on the November ballot.
