Pearl W. Dunlow-Longendelpher

AHOSKIE – Pearl Williams Dunlow-Longendelpher, age 94 of Ahoskie, passed away on July 1, 2014 at the Creekside Health and Rehabilitation Center of Ahoskie.
Mrs. Dunlow-Longendelpher was born in Bertie County on December 24, 1919, to the late Roy and Elma Odom Williams.  Pearl and her husband, the late Daris Dunlow, owned and operated D. B. Dunlow’s Grocery in Ahoskie for many years, and she was very proud of earning her nursing assistant certificate and enjoyed working as a nurse’s aide. Pearl enjoyed her flower gardens and in later years enjoyed traveling with her husband, Mel.

Besides her parents and husband, Daris Dunlow, Pearl was also preceded in death by her second husband, Mel Longedelpher; brothers, Leroy Williams, and John Williams; and a step son, Terry Longendelpher.

Pearl is survived by her daughter, Joan Dunlow Spencer of Ahoskie; a sister, Elizabeth W. Farmer (“Pookie”) of Aulander; a granddaughter, Kimberly Matthews (Lt. Col. Scott Matthews) of Greensboro; and two grandsons, Riley Spencer (Diana) of Raleigh, and Ben Spencer (Jodie) of Cary. Also surviving is a great granddaughter, Tiffany Menke; great grandsons, Ryan Matthews, Jackson Spencer, Jake Spencer, Tyler Spencer; and Joseph Spencer; two sisters-in-law, Judy Williams of Aulander, and Martha Young of Ahoskie; a step daughter-in-law, Jean Longendelpher of Covington, OH; two step sons, Melvin  Longendelpher (Peggy), and Jerry Longendelpher (Vickie) of Covington, OH; a step daughter, Sherry Lavy (Rick) of Piqua, OH; and numerous step grandchildren, and extended family members.

The family would like to express their appreciation to special family member, Shea Futrell, for being caregiver and friend to Pearl during her final days.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2014, at 11:00 am, at the Oak Grove Baptist Church, Aulander, with the Rev. Greg Hurdle officiating.  The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, prior to services.  Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie.  Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church, P.O.
