James C. Burkett

COINJOCK – James Colbert Burkett, 68, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at his home.

Born in Bertie County and raised in Hertford County, he was a retired Computer System Analyst with Spawar. He was a previous member of Green Run Baptist Church. He is a current member of Coinjock Baptist Church and Princess Anne Masonic Lodge No. 25. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a Vietnam Veteran.

Jim “J.C.” was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and friend. He was well loved and respected by all who knew him.

Left to cherish Jim’s memory are his wife, Jackie Burkett; daughter, Carey Burkett; son, Wes Burkett; mother, Bessie T. Burkett of St. John; sisters, Marie Hembree and husband Allen of Hendersonville, NC, Virgia Nichols and husband Jessie of Ahoskie, Brenda Guill and husband Linwood of Aloha, Oregon, and Janice Wagel of Ahoskie; brothers, Wayne Burkett and wife Julia of St. John, Richard Burkett and wife Jean of Colerain, and Ray Burkett and wife Gayle of Menola; his grandchildren, Eli, Cyrus, Merrick and Micah; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Merrick S. Burkett.

The family received friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, in Virginia Beach, VA on Friday, May 9. The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Princess Anne Plaza Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, VA, by the Rev. Ricky Bishop. Interment will follow in Colonial Grove Memorial Park, Virginia Beach, VA.
