WOODLAND – Mrs. Lucille Martin Hoggard, age 85 of Woodland, died Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

Mrs. Hoggard was born May 2, 1928, the daughter of the late Claude W. Martin and Mabel Vick Martin. She was also predeceased by her husband, Marvin Hoggard; a daughter, Jean Hoggard Stacy; and her sisters and brothers, Hazel Martin Ward, Jessie Helen Midgett, Claude K. Martin and Gilbert Martin.

Mrs. Hoggard was a faithful member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and choir director there for many years. She also worked for Parker Manufacturing for many years.

She is survived by her son, Buddy Hoggard and his wife JoAnne of Roanoke Rapids; her daughter, Brenda H. Lassiter and her husband Ed of Woodland; her brother, E.S. Martin of Murfreesboro; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; a special niece, Annie Mae Best; and very special caregivers and friends, Bonnie Futrell and Brenda Futrell.

Funeral services were held Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson with the Rev. Dr. Tim Mizzell and the Rev. Randy Martin officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Rich Square.
