Drug probe nets arrests

AHOSKIE – Three individuals have been charged at the conclusion of an ongoing investigation into possible drug activity.

The probe, led by Ahoskie Police Department Detective Sgt. Stephen White along with other officers, ended with the execution of a search warrant at 220 Snipes Street in Ahoskie. APD K-9 Sgt. Kellett and K-9 Nero conducted a search of the residence and found an undisclosed amount of cocaine along with drug paraphernalia.

Arrested and charged on Jan. 26 were:

Rosa Ann Cofield, 39, of Ahoskie for possession with intent to sale and deliver cocaine, conspiracy to sale and deliver cocaine, maintaining a dwelling, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Cofield was confined in the Hertford County Detention Center under a $40,000 secured bond.

Lydell Shavon Newsome, 17, of Ahoskie for possession with intent to sale and deliver cocaine, conspiracy to sale and deliver cocaine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.  Newsome was confined in the Hertford County Detention Center under a $30,000 secured bond.

Markel Levon Speller, 31, of Ahoskie for possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resist, delay and obstruct.  He was confined in the Hertford County Detention Center under a $15,000 secured bond.

“I would like to thank Detective Sgt. S. White, K-9 Sgt. M. Kellett, K-9 Nero, Officer J. Ashley, Officer J. Woodard, Officer B. Farmer and the Gates County Sheriff’s Officer for their continued efforts in protecting the citizens of Ahoskie,” said Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh.
