Alice A. Baker

KELFORD – Miss Alice Alberta Baker, age 95, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was born April 5, 1918 to the late Roy Neiceman and Mary Lucy Shoulars Baker. Miss Baker was one of fourteen children.

She was born in Rich Square, a native of Northampton County, and she devoted her life to the family farm in Kelford. Miss Baker was known for her hard work and honesty to everyone, living most of her life with a plow in her hands. She was a member of Sandy Run Baptist Church in Roxobel, with a great love for gospel music. Miss Baker was a loving caregiver to her parents in their later years. She loved to crotchet, enjoyed quilt making, embroidering and was a great cook. Miss Baker was known for her love for her family and was a wonderful sister to all her siblings. She will forever be remembered for her hard work and love to her family.

Along with her parents, Miss Baker is preceded in death by two sisters, Beaulah White and Clara Showalter; and three brothers; Frank, Edward and Sam Baker.

Survivors include six sisters; Dorothy and Lake Baker, Frances McCarthy, and Faye Fulton and husband, Arthur, all of Kelford, Helen Robbins and husband, Carlton, of Clarksville, TN, and Winford Williford and husband, Kenneth, of Vale, NC; two brothers, the Rev. Robert Earl Baker of Cobbs Creek, VA and Jerry Baker and wife, Pat, of Kelford.

Visitation will be Friday evening, December 13, 2013, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie. The funeral service will be, Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Robert Baker officiating. Burial will follow the service at HighlandMemorialGardens.
