Edward L. Phipps

MURFREESBORO – Mr. Edward Lewis “Pee Wee” Phipps, age 85 of Murfreesboro, died Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Mr. Phipps was born February 7, 1928 in Beckley, West Virginia, the son of the late Homer Lee Phipps and Mamie Virginia Smith Phipps. He was also predeceased by his wife Anna Inez Phipps.

Mr. Phipps was a World War II Army Veteran and the Korean War and served his country with the 82nd Airborne. He was a member of Murfreesboro Baptist Church and retired from the NC Dept. of Transportation after 38 years of service.

He is survived by his daughter, Faye Jenkins and her husband, Joe, of Conway; his sons, Ronnie Phipps and his wife, Betty, of Rich Square, and Emory Keith Phipps and his wife, Katherine, of Edenton; his sister, Louise Phipps Copeland of Murfreesboro; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one great grandchild; many step grandchildren; many step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Friday, November 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Murfreesboro with the Rev. Lee Canipe and the Rev. Gene Asbell officiating.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson on Thursday from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m.
