WINDSOR – A disagreement that began off-campus later became a fight that bubbled over in the student parking lot at Bertie High School Tuesday afternoon, resulting in several arrests.

Bertie County sheriff John Holley said the incident occurred Tuesday after school dismissed.

The high school resource officer called for back-up from the Sheriff’s Department when a group of students from the high school and Bertie Academy began fighting.

“It was something that originally happened away from campus in the community, and had been brewing for some time,” the sheriff told the News-Herald.

“(The incident) had been going on for a long period of time,” he added.

Nine people were involved, including four juveniles under the age of 15 who received petitions. Meanwhile, five others age 16 and above, were arrested and are now facing criminal charges, including disorderly conduct and simple affray.

It is not known if injuries occurred as a result of the fight, but the sheriff said more details are pending.
