HARRELLSVILLE – Luther Everett Whitley, age 86, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.
Luther was born in Hertford County on June 28, 1926, a son of the late Charles Bennett Whitley and Emma Burden Whitley.  He was an active member of the Harrellsville Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, superintendent and a deacon.  Luther was a farmer and loved fishing.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughters, Carolyn Harrell and husband Donald of Aulander, NC, Joan Feldman of Louisa, VA, and Nell Whitley of Ahoskie, NC; grandchildren, Bill Harrell and wife Julie, Lynette Rivera, April Thompson and husband TJ, Robert Norfleet and Thomas Feldman; and 8 great grandchildren.
A celebration of life service was conducted on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Harrellsville Baptist Church with Rev. Marcus Pond officiating.  Burial followed in the Harrellsville Cemetery.
