WILSON – Law enforcement officials here have made an arrest in the murder of a man who had Northampton County ties.

On Thursday evening, Karl Anthony Tanksley Jr., 37, was extradited from Virginia to Wilson. Tanksley is charged with the murder of Kirk Alan Lilly, 41, of Allentown, Pa. who was found dead on April 5 in the trunk of his vehicle located at the intersection of Raleigh Road Parkway and Old Merck Road in Wilson.

According to Wilson Police Sgt. John Slaughter, Tanksley’s last known address was 1390 Old Emporia Road in Gaston.

The two men were reportedly roommates and Lilly was last seen alive at the residence.

Slaughter said Tanksley was in jail when he was identified as a suspect in the case.

He added the investigation is continuing as investigators have not yet located the crime scene and there may be more arrests pending.

A missing person report was filed by the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office on April 3 after Lilly’s girlfriend told authorities in Brunswick County he was missing. Lilly had been staying at the residence in Northampton.

After the victim’s information was entered into NCIC and a BOLO issued for the 2010 Honda Accord he was driving, Wilson Police were able to match that information to the vehicle abandoned at the corner of Raleigh Road Parkway and Old Merck Road.

Lilly’s body was discovered in the trunk of the car.

Those with information pertaining to the case are urged to call the Wilson Police Department at (252) 399-2323 or Crime Stoppers at (252) 243-2255.
