CONWAY – Willie Mae Carver Johnson, 84, died Friday evening, March 22, 2013 at Hospice of Wake County. She had been married for 62 years to the late William D. Johnson, Sr.

The youngest of four children, she was preceded in death by sisters, Annie White and her husband, Jessie, of Hertford, NC, and Martha Boyce and her husband, Harry, of Virginia Beach, VA.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Perquimans County and after graduation attended Business School in Virginia. She worked at Davis and Company in Conway for many years and had been a Deacon at Conway Baptist Church since 1996.  She belonged to the Conway Baptist Women’s Mission Union, delivered Meals On Wheels, sang in the Sanctuary Choir, was a Sunday School Teacher for 30 years, was President of the Conway Woman’s Club and a member of the Conway Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.  She loved to cook and be with her family and was always known as a kind and gentle woman who was good to everyone she met. All she wanted was to make people happy.  She will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Her survivors include two sons, William Donald Johnson, Jr. and wife, Sharon, of Knightdale, and Dan Johnson and wife, Jewel, of Murfreesboro; four grandchildren, Heather Johnson Lyerly and husband, David, of Charlotte, Timothy Johnson and wife, Heather, of Raleigh, Bryan Johnson and wife, Hannah, of Murfreesboro, and Brad Johnson and wife, Katie, of Greenville; six great grandchildren, Evan Johnson, Leah Lyerly, Carter Johnson, Reid Johnson, Luke Lyerly, and Kellen Johnson; and one brother, J. D. Carver and his late wife, Elizabeth, of Jackson, NC.

In celebration of her life, a visitation was held on Monday, March 25 at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. 605 West Main St., Conway. Her service will be on Tuesday, March 26 at 11:00 a.m. in Conway Baptist Church, 229 N. Church St., Conway.
