CONWAY – The Conway Police Department is seeking the help of the community after a break-in at a popular local business.

Early Tuesday morning, Taylor Drug was broken into and 44 packs of cigarettes were stolen, according to Conway Police Chief Billy W. Duke.

Duke said he was informed about the crime at 5:45 a.m. by a Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald newspaper carrier.

“He noticed the front door of the business had been smashed in,” Duke said.

Upon arriving at Taylor Drug, located at 118 E. Main Street, Duke discovered that in addition to the front door, the back entrance was also forcibly opened and the door to an adjoining building had also been smashed opened.

Duke said all that was stolen from the store was 33 packs of Newports and 11 Natives brand cigarettes. Nothing was taken from the adjoining building.

He added an employee was at the business until 3 a.m. on Tuesday, narrowing a timeframe as to when the crime occurred.

Duke urged those who may have witnessed anything suspicious around this time to contact the Conway Police Department at 396-5553. All information will be held in confidence.
