Augustine Casper Fairless Spence

HARRELLSVILLE – Augustine Casper Fairless Spence, age 92, died Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Treyburn Rehabilitation Center in Durham.

Mrs. Spence was born in Bertie County on October 17, 1920, a daughter of the late Edward Starkey and Mary Parker Casper.  She was retired as a nursing assistant at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital and was a member of Christian Harbor Baptist Church.

Besides her parents, Augustine was predeceased by her husbands, Raleigh Wade Fairless and Thomas Bland Spence; her sister, Ella Earl Mitchell; and a grandson, Ashley Wade Lane.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Elaine Fairless Lane and husband, Ashley, of Franklinton; her son, Edward Wade Fairless and wife, Ena Pallais, of Wilson; her grandchildren, Curtis Lane and Elton Wade Fairless; and her great grandchildren, Jordan Lane, Brittany White, Meghan Lane, Dalton Lane, Ethan Wade Fairless, Evan Fairless, and Eliana Fairless.

Augustine loved her church and community and will missed by all who knew her.

A celebration of life service was conducted on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Christian Harbor Baptist Church with the Rev. Hugh Mizelle officiating.  She was laid to rest in Conway Cemetery beside her husband, Thomas Spence.
