Stanley Decatur Whitley

CHESAPEAKE, VA – Stanley Decatur Whitley, 72, of Chesapeake, VA  died Sunday, January 13, 2013.

He had been preceded in death by his wife, Linda Nobles Whitley; father, Stanley Waff Whitley; mother, Jean Lowe Whitley; and sister, Delphia Whitley Tucker.

Born and raised in Murfreesboro, he attended Murfreesboro High School and was a member of Murfreesboro Baptist Church.  He served two years in the United States Army and became a truck driver for NU-CAR CARRIERS in Norfolk, Virginia.  He was a Member of the United Auto Workers Local 273 there.

A hard-working father, he loved to travel all over the United States and loved sports, NASCAR, politics, and eating out at restaurants, especially ones serving seafood. He was “one of a kind” and “known by many, loved by all” and he will be greatly missed.

He was a loving father to sons, Joseph Whitley and his wife, Janice, and Daniel Whitley; and two daughters, Lisa Clark and Deanna Whitley; and to his 13 grandchildren, and great grandson. He is also survived by one sister, Lynn Gray and her husband, Jimmy; two nieces; one nephew; an aunt, Mary W. Snead and her husband, Pete; and an uncle, Clarence Whitley and wife, Mary.

His memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 in Riverside Cemetery, Murfreesboro with the Rev. Tom Caulkins presiding.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial donations be made to Murfreesboro Baptist Church Missions Fund, 200 W. Main St., Murfreesboro, NC  27655.
