Ophelia Flythe Turner

CONWAY – Ophelia Flythe Turner, 83, of Conway died Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Hospice at The Meadowlands in Hillsboro.

A native of Northampton County, she had been preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Randolph Edward Turner; her only daughter, Glenda Turner Bracy; and parents, George Washington Flythe and Reno Lanier Flythe.

Mrs. Turner was a graduate of Conway High School where she enjoyed playing basketball. She then went to work with Draper, Taylor, & Johnson in Conway, followed by several years with Taylor Drug where she is well remembered working with “Jim” in Prescriptions and at the soda fountain. She also worked with the Chicken Hatchery near Conway and then she enjoyed working at Chowan College. She went on to work as activities Director at The Villa in Rich Square and ended her working career at Pine Forest Rest Home in Potecasi.  She was a member of Conway Baptist Church and had, formerly, been a member of Creeksville Baptist Church.

Survivors include granddaughter, Jeannie Jenkins Rose and husband, John, and his mother, Susan Rose of Henderson; grandson, James Harry Jenkins of Durham; son-in-law, Harry Payne Jenkins of Durham; brother George W. Flythe, Jr. and wife, Dorothy, of Creeksville; sister, Carolyn Vaughan and husband, Stanley, of Jackson; niece and nephew, Rose Flythe Finley and husband, Duke, and John Vaughan and wife, Karen, of Raleigh; great niece and nephew, Alex Finley and Dixie Finley of Raleigh; sister-in-law, Imogene Turner of Swansboro; nephew-in-law, Mark Waters of Conway; and one very loved cat named Conway.

The family received friends at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. in Conway on Friday, January 18 and her funeral service will be held there on Saturday, January 19 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Willie McLawhorn and the Rev. Nicky Martin presiding.  Burial will follow in the Town of Conway Cemetery.
