JACKSON – Northampton County officials plan to meet this week to discuss a new high school.

At 4 p.m. on Wednesday, the Northampton County Board of Education and Board of Commissioners will meet as a working group at the Northampton Central Services Board Room.

The purpose of the meeting is to bring the two governing entities together to talk about the need for a new centrally high school. In November, the board of education requested a joint meeting with the commissioners and for the school board and administration to express to the county commissioners the need for a new centrally located high school and request assistance in obtaining the objective.

That request came on the heels of concerns raised by two board members about the condition of the current Northampton County High School, formerly Northampton County High School-East.

At the beginning of the 2012-13 school year, Northampton County High School West/STEM was merged with East in the Creeksville precinct despite parents, citizens and board member’s concerns.

The topic has been heavily discussed by the two boards for the last few years.
