Jimmie David “J.D.” Flowers

COFIELD – Jimmie David “J.D.” Flowers, 92, of 252 Flowers Lane, Cofield, died Wednesday, December 19, 2012 in his home.

Mr. Flowers was born in Wilson County and was the youngest of 10 children born to the late David Dortch and Kate Burnette Flowers.  A retired farmer, he was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, and had served on the Hertford County Board of Commissioners.

Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Joyce Southerland Flowers; two daughters, Judith White and husband, Charles, of Clemson, SC and Cindy Askew and husband, Mike, of Gates; five sons, David Scott Flowers and wife, Pam, of Murfreesboro, Jimmie Flowers and wife, Kathy, of Woodville, AL, Steven Flowers and wife, Cathy, of Annandale, VA, Frank Jones and wife, Maria, of Winton and Mark Jones and wife, Kay, of Ahoskie; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, by the Revs. Mike Askew and Lee Edwards.  Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service and all other times at the residence.
