ROXOBEL – The Bertie County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a suspect involved in an attempted bank robbery here early Wednesday afternoon.

Sheriff John Holley said the suspect entered Southern Bank, located on Main Street (NC 308) in Roxobel, at approximately 12:08 p.m.

“The man passed a note demanding money to one of the bank’s tellers,” Holley said. “The note threatened harm to the teller if they moved, but the suspect did not display any type of weapon.”

Holley added that the teller did not hand over any money and the suspect exited the bank. The Sheriff said the suspect was last seen walking east on Main Street. However, Holley said there may have been a get-away vehicle waiting, possibly a gold, four-door small passenger car.

The Sheriff described the suspect as a black male with a light complexion in his early to mid-20’s. He stood approximately 6’ tall and weighed about 160 pounds. The suspect has black hair with long dreads and was wearing a medium blue cap, dark coat, white shirt with an unknown design on the front, and blue jeans with white patches on both rear pockets.

Anyone with information on this suspect or who perhaps saw something as they were driving past the scene shortly after 12 noon on Wednesday are urged to contact the Bertie Sheriff’s Office at 252-794-5330.
