AHOSKIE – Hertford County High School will be back at home Friday.

The Bears (8-3) enter the second round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 3-A football playoffs with a five-game winning streak after topping West Carteret 52-26.

While the Bears have been playing well, so too has their opponent – Washington High School. The Pam Pack comes in 9-3 and riding an identical five-game win streak after knocking off West Craven 48-6 a week ago.

“Washington is a very good team,” HCHS Head Football Coach Scott Privott said. “They are explosive on offense and are led by quarterback Jimmy Williams. He can score on any play.”

Williams was chosen Player of the Week by WITN following last week’s win by Washington.

The Bears bested West Carteret behind their own quarterback, Ryan Weaver. The junior QB passed for 258 yards on 11-of-14, including three scores. He added another 81 yards on the ground and scored that way as well.

Privott said his game plan would be to execute on offense and pressure on defense.

“We have to get after them defensively and we need to execute on offense,” he said. “We also have to come out and play aggressively on both sides of the football.”

The Bears will be hosting the Pam Pack at 7:30 p.m. Friday night.
