CHESAPEAKE, VA – Gloria F. Thompson, 75, of the 1300 block of Anne Avenue, Chesapeake, VA, went to be with the Lord on November 2, 2012.

A native of Ahoskie, she was born on August 24, 1937 to the late Clyde and Lucy Fretwell.  She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Melody Ann; and a sister, Evelyn Fisher.

She was a faithful member of Raleigh Heights Baptist Church, Chesapeake.

Surviving are her loving husband of 57 years, John Stark Thompson; two sons, Ricky Thompson and his wife, Vicki, of Suffolk, VA and Steve Thompson and his wife, Pat, of Chesapeake, VA; a daughter, Pam Freda and her husband, Tom, of Franklin, VA; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Ann Harrison; and a brother, Tom Fretwell and his wife, Carol Jean, all of Ahoskie; a host of nieces and nephews; former daughter-in-law, Barbara Dodge; and many loving neighbors and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 1 p.m. in Raleigh Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Thompson and the Rev. Paul Menard officiating. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.  She will be laid to rest on Thursday, November 8 at 12 noon in Ahoskie Cemetery in Ahoskie.
