WINTON – A Murfreesboro man is behind bars here on multiple drug charges.

Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan said a search warrant executed by his department led to the charges against James Arthur Bishop Jr., 46, of Mapleton Road.

“Investigator Greg Harrison executed the search warrant Friday afternoon,” Vaughan said. “He was assisted by deputies from our department along with officers of the Murfreesboro Police Department.”

Once officers arrived they allegedly found 16 hits of crack cocaine in Bishop’s front left pocket. They also seized $2,193 as well as a set of digital scales and plastic baggies.

In addition, officers found a shotgun that was reported stolen last year from a residence in Como.

Following the execution of the warrant, Bishop was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule II narcotic, possession of a stolen firearm and maintaining a dwelling to keep a controlled substance.

He was placed in the Hertford County Detention Center under a $30,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was Tuesday.

“This is another in our ongoing efforts to slow down the sale of drugs in Hertford County,” Vaughan said. “We will continue to work to make sure Hertford County’s citizens are safe from the drug trade.”
