WINDSOR – It will be an afternoon filled with good music, beverages and food.

The inaugural Blues, Brews and BBQ event will be held Sunday afternoon at the Roanoke-Cashie River Center. The event, sponsored by Bertie County Peanuts, is a project of Windsor’s STEP program.

Scheduled from 1-5 p.m., those wishing to attend may actually begin their day at 10 a.m. when the River Center sponsors boating trips down the Cashie River at no charge. Reservations may be made for those trips by calling the Center at 794-2001. The trips will be on a pontoon boat.

There are also planned river trips for any canoers or kayakers who wish to be part of the festivities.

For the blues portion of the event, those in attendance will hear the sounds of Carolina Still, a high-energy blue grass group from Washington. Carolina Still is an acoustic band with a new sound and an old-time feel. They take audiences down on the farm, out in the tobacco fields and down a dirt road with a truck full of ‘shine.

Those wishing to enjoy the Brews portion of the event will have nine different beers to sample. There will be multiple micro breweries represented at the event for a variety of beer flavors and styles.

Finishing off the event will be an all-you-can-eat pulled pork BBQ.

“This will be a fun filled event you can’t miss,” said Windsor Fire Chief Billy Smithwick, who is one of the event’s organizers. “Beer, blue grass and BBQ, it does not get any better than that.”

Tickets for the event are $20 and are available at multiple locations. In Windsor, they are available at the Windsor Fire Station, the Windsor Town Hall, Bertie County Peanuts, the Bertie County Arts Council and the Roanoke-Cashie River Center. In Ahoskie, tickets can be purchased at Southern Bank and Cash and Carry.
