LA ladies edge Ridgecroft

AHOSKIE – Lawrence Academy evened its overall record with a five-set win at Ridgecroft School Sept. 20.

The Lady Warriors took the volleyball match by a count of 25-23, 25-17, 22-25, 20-25 and 15-11.

“We came out and played well in the first two games,” Lawrence mentor Lee Hoffman said. “Ridgecroft battled back to win the next two and we dug in deep in game five to win the match.

“I’m very proud of the girls in finally winning a five-set match,” he added. “They battled and found a way to win in the end. We played excellent defense all match, especially with Ridgecroft’s good service game.”

The Lady Warriors were led by senior hitter Hayden Thompson who had seven digs, six aces, five kills and five blocks. Middle hitter Megan Sutton added six aces, five kills, four blocks and three digs.

Senior Chelsea Ginn had an outstanding defensive effort.

The win boosted the Lady Warriors to 4-4 overall and 3-3 in the Tarheel Independent Conference.

In jayvee action, Ridgecroft won in three sets. The Lady Rams claimed the victory 17-25, 25-15 and 15-12.
