Wreck injures one

MURFREESBORO – A Murfreesboro man was taken to the hospital after a motor vehicle accident on East Main Street here Thursday.

Samuel Harris, 75, was transported to Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital by Hertford County EMS following the single-vehicle wreck. The vehicle came to rest on the front lawn of the Roberts-Vaughn House, which houses the Murfreesboro Historical Association and Chamber of Commerce.

Murfreesboro Police Officer W.A. Benton said Harris was operating his 2004 Chevy pick-up truck west on US 158/Main Street when the vehicle ran off the left side of the road.

“The vehicle struck a speed limit sign, a fence and came to rest at the base of a magnolia tree,” Benton said.

He added the vehicle was totaled.

Benton said Harris was alert following the wreck and was transported to the hospital for evaluation.

Benton said he is still investigating and charges are pending.
