Lady Warriors suffer loss

WILSON – Lawrence Academy suffered a tough loss on the road in their season opener here Aug. 23.

The Lady Warriors took Greenfield School to five sets before dropping a volleyball decision by a final of 25-10, 13-25, 11-25, 25-8 and 10-15.

“We played well for the first match of the season,” first-year Warrior mentor Lee Hoffman said. “We have to learn to keep our intensity up throughout every game.”

Senior hitter Holly McNair had a great all-around match for the Warriors, recording a dozen kills and 10 digs.

Freshman setter Taylor Wilson served 16 straight points in game four to even the match. Senior hitter Hayden Thompson served 11 straight in the first game, also won by the Warriors. She had a total of 24 in the match.

The loss dropped the Lady Warriors to 0-1 for the season. They will be back in action at home today (Tuesday) when they host Tarheel Independent Conference foe Ridgecroft School at 4 p.m.
