Brinkleys celebrate 65th wedding anniversary

AHOSKIE – David R. Brinkley Jr. and Margaret (Chitty) Brinkley of the Center Grove community recently celebrated 65 years of marriage with a family lunch at the Hitching Post Restaurant in Williamston followed by anniversary cake and ice cream at their home.

The couple was married March 20, 1947 in Rocky Mount by the now late Rev. Clarence E. Godwin, a native of the Center Grove community.

David is a son of the late David R. Brinkley Sr. and Alleen (Brantley) Brinkley of Center Grove. Margaret is a daughter of the late R. Duncan Chitty and Virgie (Northcott) Chitty of Murfreesboro.

The Brinkleys are the parents of three sons: David A. (Debbie) Brinkley of New Bern, Ralph L. (Jeanne) Brinkley of Center Grove and Steve L. (Michelle) Brinkley of Greenville. The couple has five grandchildren: Jenny B. (Bill II) Vaughan of Center Grove, Amy B. (Josh) Roberts of Ahoskie, Brandon Brinkley of the US Army, and Adam and Travis Brinkley of Greenville; two step-grandchildren: Timothy Evans (Dana) of Wilmington and Anna E. Teets (Doug) of Chesapeake, VA; and two step great grandchildren: Evan and Lilly Teets of Chesapeake, Va.
