Lady Falcons stop HCHS

AHOSKIE – Kelsey White and Kaela White combined to pitch a two-hit shutout for Bertie High School Friday.

The two combined to lead the Lady Falcons to a 19-0 victory over Northeastern Coastal Conference rival Hertford County High School.

The Lady Falcons opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the first frame.

Brook Bowen singled and went to third when Tori Dunlow reached second on an error. Caroline White and Lauren Dunlow then each had RBI-singles to put BHS up 2-0.

The Falcons added three more in the second when Haley Williams belted a three-run homer to make it 5-0 for the visiting team.

Bertie scored two more in the top of the third.

Kelsey White doubled and moved to third on an Ashley Burkett groundout. White scored on a wild pitch.

Morgan Howell then walked, stole second and scored on an error to give the Falcons a 7-0 advantage.

The Lady Falcons got three more in the fourth frame.

Williams and Courtney Jernigan each scored on errors and Kim Northcott scored on a fielder’s choice as the Falcons led 10-0.

Bertie’s final nine runs came in the top of the fifth frame.

Caroline White had an RBI-triple, Jernigan had a two-run double and Northcott delivered a two-run double. Caroline White added a two-run double, Williams an RBI-double and two more runs score on errors.

In the bottom of the fifth, Michelle Nichols walked with one out for the Lady Bears. Katie Pierce then singled, but a strike out and a fly out ended the game.

Kelsey White pitched two innings for Bertie, allowing no runs on no hits while striking out five. Kaela White pitched the final three innings, allowing two hits and no runs while striking out four.

Caroline White and Williams each had three hits to pace the Falcons. Pierce and Desiree James had the two hits for Hertford County.

The Lady Falcons improved to 9-1 overall and 5-1 in league play while the Lady Bears dropped to 0-5 in the conference.
