AHOSKIE – It has been a season filled with interesting occurrences for Ridgecroft girl’s basketball coach Susan Oliver.

During the season, Oliver has dealt with more injuries than most coaches have to overcome in four or five years. She has seen her top three players miss significant time due to injuries.

Still, the Lady Rams debuted in the first round of the Tarheel Independent Conference tournament as the number two seed Monday night.

With her squad back at full force, Oliver saw her team run out to an early lead and never look back. The Lady Rams defeated Lawrence Academy 47-18.

“We were glad to have everyone back on the floor and to get a win in the first round,” Oliver said. “We didn’t play as well as we’re capable of, but I think we’ll bounce back.”

The Rams saw balanced scoring during the victory.

Hennie Larabee led the way with 15, but both Miller Bryant and Lauren Colson scored 14 during the contest.

Larabee and Bryant each had a double-double in the win. Bryant added 10 steals to her 14 points while Larabee pulled down 10 boards. Bryant also had six assists.

Katie Blowe and Mary-joe Harrell rounded out the scoring for the Lady Rams with two points each.

Lawrence was paced by six points from Holly McNair. Sydney Brabble and Meg Sutton added four each for the Warriors. Hallie Corbett and Heather Hughes rounded out the Lawrence scoring with two points each.

Ridgecroft will be playing again Friday in the TIC tournament where the second-seeds will square off with number three seed Northeast Academy. The two teams split their regular-season league meetings with each team winning on their home floor.

“We have to get focused on Northeast now,” Oliver said. “They are a good team and we have to be prepared.”

The two teams will meet at approximately 6 p.m. Friday following the junior varsity girls and boys semifinal games.
