MERRY HILL – Columbia High School used a balanced attack to defeat Lawrence Academy here Wednesday.

The Lady Wildcats had nine players score during the contest and cruised to a 45-12 non-conference victory.

The game started as a low-scoring affair with Columbia leading 9-2 after one quarter. Sydney Brabble had the lone basket for the Lady Warriors.

The Wildcats continued to pull away in the second period when they scored the first nine points to take an 18-2 advantage. Hallie Corbett stopped the spurt by hitting the final hoop of the first half, but Columbia led 18-4 at the intermission.

The Lady Warriors came out and scored two of the first three hoops of the second half when Priscilla Lunsford and Holly McNair sandwiched buckets around a hoop from Columbia’s Shemain Spencer as they closed within 20-8.

The lead never shrank after that, however, as Columbia scored four straight and eight of the next 10 and took a 28-10 lead after three quarters.

McNair and Lunsford had the highest offensive output for the Warriors with four each. Corbett and Brabble had two each.

Kenya Buxton led the way for Columbia with nine points while Spencer added eight and Eliza Basnight had seven.

The Lady Warriors dropped to 0-15 for the season with the loss.
