‘Boys will be boys’

To the Editor:

“It is a sad day in Hertford County when grown men act like children” (Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald editorial from Saturday, January 7) is right on target.

It is safe to assume that the citizens of Hertford County have not fully understood that this impulsive decision will change the location of the county seat. This is an absurd result to a ridiculous argument that will cost every citizen.

We can all agree that the presence of women in the room makes for more balanced behavior. In fact, the people of Winton have moved to prevent this in the future. We now have two women on the town board of commissioners, one being the mayor. This, in the span of one meeting, has resulted in apologies and a promise to work together with the county in the future.

Now, it appears we need women on the county board of commissioners in order to get reasonable, balanced outcomes.

Remember, this project is still under study. No contracts have been signed. We can correct the “boys will be boys” behavior of our leadership.

Thank you Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald for your honest reporting and opinions.
