To the Editor:

I never dreamed the day would come when we would be talking about the Hertford County courthouse moving from Winton.

I am very sad that the county and town leaders couldn’t work together better. Because of that, our courthouse, which was designed to look like the old Winton Courthouse that burned, is going to Murfreesboro. Something is wrong with that picture.

I have deep roots in the town of Winton and do not want to see the town suffer.

I am also a taxpayer in Hertford County and do not want to see my pocketbook suffer either. As taxpayers, you all need to open your eyes and see what is going on. Our taxpayer dollars are funding this project and with the economy like it is, is this the best use for our money?

Keep your eyes open and let’s do what is best for Winton, Hertford County and the citizens.
